A detached house in
Switzerland renounces connecting to a public power grid - it is 100% energy self-sufficient with
electricity storage, photovoltaic and solar thermal energy.
About 10 km east of the Swiss city of Bern is the
municipality of Vechigen. On the outskirts there, in a hilly landscape, a newly built family
home which at first glance probably the whole roof system
of photovoltaic and solar thermal modules should attract attention of the
professional.
This House Do Not Need A Grid Connection (Goes Off-Grid ) |
The most interesting thing about this new building, however,
is what is not visible. The house drops the
connection to the public electricity grid. It is 100 percent self-sufficient
and supplies its residents exclusively with solar thermal energy, photovoltaic
and electricity storage.
Decisive for the success of the absolute self-sufficiency
are the appropriate storage for heat and electricity, which provide enough
energy even in sunny months. Power storage and energy management are provided
by a Swiss company (POWERBALL-Systems AG.) . Their
power storage devices are particularly reliable and precisely adapt their
capacity and performance to the individual needs of any application. In
addition, they can be extended at any time, even after years. If operators need
more capacity and performance in the future, retrofitting can be done quickly
and easily.
In the self-sufficient detached house, three Powerball power
storage units of the PBRO1-3500-8 series with a total capacity of 40 kilowatt
hours gross and a power output of 16 kilowatts are installed for a start. The storage tanks will work in off-grid mode
with the Powerball Island function and
take over the complete electrical energy management in the building.
